The Growth of Chennai as a Start-up Hub

And within it, up and coming enterprises, as well as existing companies, are well on their way to paving a way to change. The city has already turned many heads in recent years for creating internet companies like Freshdesk and Indix, which have made their presence felt in the international market. The Tamil Nadu government has been actively promoting the startup ecosystem in the state.

The city's highly literate population and skilled technical talent have
turned it into an attractive market for budding entrepreneurs. The region's economy was earlier more dependent on the automobile industry but has shifted towards the information technology sector. The recent years have witnessed a rise of entrepreneurship in the region with startups doing exceptionally well across different verticals ­ be it pharma, marketing or finance. The marketing startups in this context have recently gained widespread recognition. They are helping businesses create their own brand identity and constant growth in this fast-paced competitive world that is detrimental to the businesses' health. Many investors are willing to invest in such startups with innovative ideas and this has become a plus for the ambitious entrepreneurs looking for growth opportunities. Also, there are 55 operational SEZs in Tamil Nadu of which 18 are in Chennai which makes the city a preferred destination for start-ups or businesses. The city has hosted several entrepreneurial events to attract emerging startups due to the prospect of real-time uninterrupted growth related to it.
