Techeco has taken it upon itself to streamline the informal sector. After the e-Waste is gathered, data erasing, sanitation and destruction services that adhere to the latest security requirements are carried out to eliminate any security risks. The gathered electronic devices are repaired and refurbished to extend their asset life in an effort to create a sustainable environment.
"When we throw out our old gadgets, we are privileged enough to buy the latest devices. But, there are some people who are not as privileged and can't afford to buy new or second-hand gadgets. Old devices which have been thrown out are refurbished at our recycling plant and donated in camps conducted by Techeco or NGOs. The 'Zero Waste Living' motto takes center stage at Techeco. Techeco has delved into activities taken for creating awareness among rural and urban areas regarding waste disposal ways in addition to executing commercial practices in the e-Waste industry. They have advocated for the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) at events such as the Alternate Fuel Conclave Event 2022 in Pune, conducted awareness campaigns in SEZs and IT parks across India, and we take up multiple collection drives across west India and have taken up initiatives in association with the municipal corporations for awareness by painting murals at multiple locations in the city which explain the hazards and categories of ewaste. In emerging economies, the market for electronic and electrical equipment is both large and lucrative. Owning to such market availability, countries such as India and China today are also among the largest generators of e-Waste. "It is only natural to come up with a strategy to engage with informal sector workers. Since the rules are completely oblivious to the unorganized sector, streamlining the informal sector will not only go a long way toward better e-waste management practices but also aid in environmental protection, improve the health and working conditions of laborers and provide better work opportunities to over a million people. This will make management environmentally sustainable and easy to monitor", affirms by the directors of Techeco Waste Management.
The use of electronic items, and thus the production of e-Waste, will surely increase, at least over the next few decades, notwithstanding the uncertainty surrounding how future technology will develop. This is particularly true for fast-growing economies that have not yet been overrun by the plethora of e-Products that come along with prosperity. For producers, users, e-Waste collectors, recyclers, and policymakers, it means more opportunities as well as challenges in the global e-Waste arena.
