Si Team Los Angeles, CA/ Bengaluru, India – August 9, 2018 – Quizizz, a learning platform that helps teachers turn homework and tests into self-paced games, recently hit a milestone by passing the 10 million active user mark and raising $3 million in a round led by Nexus Venture Partners with participation from existing investors Prime Venture Partners and angels. The funding will support new products that help students master standards specific to their grade level, school, and state.

Quizizz combines game-design elements with self-paced questions and instant feedback to help students learn for mastery. To play, teachers can use their own content or choose from millions of educator-created quizzes. Students can engage from any device. The platform saw a massive organic adoption in the US schools.

Quizziz was founded by Ankit Gupta and Deepak Joy Cheenath alumni from BITS Pilani. They started their journey working with underserved students at a nonprofit school in Bangalore. They worked closely with the teachers and students on different ideas and launched Quizizz based on their work with the students.

“Our mission is to motivate every learner. When we hear that a student initially struggled on a math assignment but then replayed it six or seven times because he/she wanted to improve, we know we’re on the right track”, says Ankit Gupta.

Ram Gupta, Managing Director, Nexus Venture Partners, adds, “With Quizizz, teachers save time and students learn while having fun. It is a win-win, and that’s why we’ve seen it adopted in more than 50 percent of U.S. schools with over 10 M students using it. We’re excited to be partners in the journey ahead.”

Different Quizizz game modes let students play as a group or complete assignments at home. Features like points, customizable memes, and an optional leaderboard personalize the experience for each class.

Instead of creating quizzes from scratch and hand grading every assignment, teachers cover basic concepts by customizing public quizzes and students get instant feedback when they complete each question. As a result, educators have more time to focus on priorities like individual support and curriculum development.

“There’s a trend across U.S. classrooms of promoting mastery over one-time grades and this makes Quizizz crucial for me. My students love the low-pressure competition in class and also look forward to keeping the challenge going home. Quizizz is my favorite tool,” explains Sean Eichenser, an eighth grade ELA teacher for Chicago Public Schools.

“I recommend Quizizz to every teacher and my students are so excited about having real input into something this big. There’s a great feeling of empowerment that most students don't get,” says Deborah Grothaus, a high school physics teacher for Los Alamos Public Schools in New Mexico.

Quizizz team is spread across their California and Bangalore offices.
