Agritech startup accelerator funds are beneficial for Kerala

With the Union Budget introducing an agriculture accelerator fund to foster agri-companies by young entrepreneurs in rural regions, Kerala's initiative to promote agritech startups is set to gain momentum. According to sources, Kerala has 300 agritech firms registered under the Kerala StartUp Mission (KSUM), placing it ahead of its peers in the number of startups with an agricultural focus.

The accelerator money mentioned in the budget would bolster the state's agritech startup industry, according to Ashok Kurian Panjikkaran, Head of Business Development and Incubation at KSUM. It will also support entrepreneurs that have presented creative concepts.

"We applaud the Center's suggestion to foster agri-tech firms. It will revolutionise the startup industry and take them to the next level. The accelerator fund will now assist businesses in creating cutting-edge products. As a part of it, we will bring ten carefully chosen agritech businesses to Israel for more in-depth collaboration on product development and technological improvements with Israeli entrepreneurs and accelerators.

They chose Israel because, behind the United States, it has the second-largest start-up environment in the world. Agritech firms, in contrast to other technology startups, will always have a market, according to Ashok. The accelerator fund aims to develop cutting-edge and practical agritech solutions for farmers to enhance yields and access to market links.

The successful Thiruvananthapuram agri-tech firm Greenikk Ventures (P) Ltd's founders, Previn Jacob and Fariq Naushad, appreciated the Center's assistance for the industry. The money from the accelerator programme will benefit the nascent agritech firms that are located in Tier II cities.

In addition to assisting with funding, it will also direct the startups to advance with creative skills, they claimed. To ensure that innovative products and solutions play a crucial part in the state's agricultural growth, KSUM and the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NA BAR D) are working to connect entrepreneurs and farmers.
