Deepinder Goyal Backs LAT Aerospace with $20 Million Investment

Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal has made an investment of $20 million in LAT Aerospace, a startup aerospace company launched by erstwhile Zomato COO Surobhi Das, reports The Economic Times. Goyal will assume a non-executive position, while Das will head the day-to-day operations of the company.

The report states that both Goyal and Das are founders with Goyal concentrating on mentorship and investment. LAT Aerospace is said to be in discussions to secure $50 million of seed funding and intends to employ engineers that are familiar with aerodynamics, material sciences, and hybrid propulsion systems.

Lat-Air Aerospace operates in stealth mode now, focusing on creating short takeoff and landing (STOL) low-cost aircraft for a seating capacity of 24 passengers. With a range of up to 1,500 kilometers, the aircraft can land and take off from small 'air-stops' no bigger than a car park. LAT Aerospace will seek to take business away from veterans such as Bombardier and ATR whose aircraft dominate Indian carriers like SpiceJet and IndiGo.

Das, a graduate of IIM Ahmedabad, departed Zomato in November 2023 after over a decade, having played a role in market growth through Blinkit. She was hired by Zomato in 2011 and had also worked as Goyal's chief of staff.

With the support of Goyal and Das at the helm, LAT Aerospace is set to revolutionize regional air travel with innovative, affordable aircraft solutions.
