Delhi-based Rural commerce startup Rozana, has successfully raised $22.5 million in their Series A round of funding, with Bertelsmann India Investments (BII) taking the lead alongside Fireside Ventures and existing investors. Apart from Bertelsmann India Investments (BII) and other investors, co-founder of Licious, Vivek Gupta also participated in the funding round.

In a previous funding round, the startup had secured $2.5 million in its pre-Series A round from 3one4 Capital and Europe’s IEG – Investment Banking Group in April 2022.

The fresh capital will be deployed to expand Rozana’s warehousing and logistics footprint in new districts, enhance its technology platform, and scale up recruitment efforts across technology, product, and operations teams.

Ankur Dahiya, Adwait Vikram Singh, Mukesh Christopher, and Prithvi Pal Singh established Rozana in 2021. This company operates an e-commerce platform and logistics network that specifically caters to the requirements of rural communities in India. At present, Rozana serves a remarkable number of 12,000 villages spanning across 13 districts in Uttar Pradesh and Haryana.

Rozana has devised a unique hyperlocal e-commerce model that relies on village-based "peer partners" to carry out last-mile deliveries. By doing so, Rozana ensures that rural customers enjoy the convenience of doorstep delivery while keeping the costs at a minimum. Currently, the company boasts a vast network of over 18,000 peer partners, who have the opportunity to earn additional income through their association with Rozana.

Rozana’s unique business model is not only focusing on up-ticking the business growth, but their prime focus is also to uplift rural India. They deliver a wide range of over 5,000 products, making essential goods accessible to nearly a billion people in underserved rural markets.

Using this fresh capital of series A round Rozana will join hands with Binny Bansal's startup scaling platform, xto10x Technologies. This collaboration will help the startup in warehouse design, last-mile delivery solutions, launching new product categories, and expansion strategies.

Partner at Bertelsmann India Investments, Rohit Sood said, “The opportunity in rural India is greatly underappreciated and this team is the ideal one to unlock it. The offering created by Ankur, Adwait and Mukesh is outstanding and it is hard to find a company with such consumer love.”
