• With the new funding, Misfits aims to enhance its mobile platform and expand into additional regions of Delhi NCR within three months.
Misfits, an offline interest-based community platform, has raised Rs 5 crore in a seed funding round from Info Edge Ventures and Better Capital.
Established in 2022 by IIT Kanpur alumnus Shashwat Narhatiyar, Chaitanya Dhawan, Saurabh Sharma, and Shaswat Kar, the company brings together club members, leaders, and venues to create flourishing communities. Misfits has seen over 20,000 organic growth in members across over 40 active clubs, having organized over 3,000 social meetups in the Delhi NCR area to date.
"It was five years ago that the idea of Misfits came into existence as a university project, spurred by the understanding that online social networking websites don't necessarily result in actual human relationships," Misfits Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer Shashwat Narhatiyar said. "We noticed the lack of a platform where individuals could actually interact on the basis of their interests, beyond online friendships. This vision compelled us to build Misfits, an offline interest-based commons space that converts into real-life relationships," Narhatiyar added.
Objective of Fundraising
With this new round of seed funding , Misfits plans to extend its mobile platform and make it easier for people to join, create, and grow communities and go to new Indian cities. With operations currently in Gurugram, the startup plans to extend its footprint to other areas of Delhi NCR in the next three months.
We began Misfits because we had a problem we ourselves had," Chaitanya Dhawan, CMO at Misfits, told us. "Though people are more connected than ever before, they feel more lonely today. My co-founders and I saw it happen ourselves; what began as casual get-togethers at our home in Gurgaon has now become a couple of successful communities. Our growth has been entirely organic, driven by people seeking actual social connections," Dhawan added.
Rishabh Katiyar, Principal, Info Edge Ventures, stated, "There is definitely a need for such a platform, but this issue is not yet well-solved. The company has demonstrated robust organic growth and great customer NPS. Their new model, which allows club leaders to operate their own interest clubs, is facilitating Misfits to grow very rapidly in an efficient capital manner."
Better Capital CEO Vaibhav Domkundwar also added, "Misfits is the 'Airbnb of Human Connections,' and we are looking forward to supporting a team who have created a distinctive solution around this vision."
