Mobile Premier League Bags $90 Million in Series C Funding

Team StartupcityMPL, an Indian mobile based e-sport platform announced Monday that it raised a whopping $90 Million capital in Series C funding. The current round of funding was led by SIG, RTP Global, MDI Ventures and Pegasus Tech Ventures. The two year old startups’ previous backers Sequoia Capital India, Go-Ventures, and Base Partners also participated in this round of funding which took the company’s total capital raised till date to $ 130.5 Million.
The company that currently offers over 70 games on its platforms intends to use this fresh round of capital to widen its product offering with an increased focus on social functions such as live streaming, audio and video content features. The Bangalore based company is also looking to expand its workforce to keep up with the current IPL season.

“This latest round of funding will enable us to entertain and connect an even larger audience across India and beyond. Being able to bring quality technology, competitive spirit, and enjoyment to people in such an accessible way is what keeps us excited. The online gaming industry is seeing huge and increasing engagement; with this fresh capital injection being proof of MPL’s potential to lead this space,” said Sai Srinivas, Co-Founder & CEO, Mobile Premier League in a statement.

The investment comes in at a time when the Indian startup market has been abuzz with funding activities galore in the online gaming segment. Online gaming and fantasy sport has been receiving widespread adoption and this investment will help further the industry’s growth perspectives.
