News Platform Lokal Secures $3mn Funding From Y Combinator, Others

Team Startup CityBangalore-based hyperlocal news aggregator platform Lokal bagged funding worth $3 million in a round led by a clunch of investors that included 3one4 capital and seed investor Y-Combinator alongside the participation of its existing investor India Quotient. Other players who took part in this funding round were RB Investment and SOMA capital.

With the newly infused capital, the company will focus on enhancing its product and team expansion while also looking to venture into other market segments.


Behtar Technology Pvt. Ltd., the platform also secured investments from Xiaomi’s Indonesia head Alvin Tse, Twitch’s co-founder Kevin Lin, Starling venture- a South Korean VC firm, and I2BF global ventures. Talking about the recent investment, the co-founder of Lokal, Jani Pasha said that is firm is concentrated on gaining ground in a particular location while offering its users with exclusive content.

Founded in 2018 by Jani Pasha and Vipul Chaudhary, the startup has developed a network of stringers and freelance reporters who provide them with first-hand original news information that ranges from reports on vegetable prices and gold price to weather reports and movie theatre listing. Securing its presence across 27 districts across the states of Telangana, Uttar Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh, it now looks forward to set its foot in three other markets as well in the upcoming years.
