Paramedic edtech startup Virohan raises $7 million in funding led by Blume Ventures

Healthcare edtech startup Virohan said it has raised $7 million in a bridge round of funding, dubbed pre-Series B1, led by Blume Ventures. Other investors in the fundraise are Bharat Inclusion Seed Fund, Rebright Partners and Leasing Artha, ALES Japan, JP Morgan Chase Singapore managing director Shantanu Jain, Deepa Bagla Financial Consultants and LetsVenture angel investor member Harshvardhan Rajgarhia, who put in $500,000, as per a statement.

The Gurugram-based startup had last raised $200,000 as part of its Series A funding round, which was led by Rebright Partners in May 2021. In August 2020, it had raised $2.8 million in a combined seed and Series A round. The company has in total now raised $11 million. The fresh funding will help Virohan expand to the Japanese market with support from its existing investors ALES, and Rebright Partners, the statement said.

The company also aims to expand to over 200 new campuses pan-India, develop and launch new training programmes, as well as scale its omnichannel training platform infrastructure and content in vernacular languages. Founded in 2018 by Kunaal Dudeja, Nalin Saluja and Archit Jayaswal, Virohan offers certificate-based courses to paramedics, such as emergency medical technician, medical laboratory technician, operation theatre technician, hospital administration and radiology technician courses.

Virohan’s students include technicians such as phlebotomists, medical lab technicians, operating theatre technicians, the statement added. “The severe shortage in healthcare workers came to the fore during the pandemic but continues to remain a persistent problem. Virohan’s efforts in providing high-quality training to these professionals through a highly scalable model that blends both digital and classroom/hospital experience promises to solve this problem,” said Ashwin Raguraman, co-founder and partner, Bharat Fund.

In the financial year ended March 2021, Virohan clocked a two-fold rise in student enrollments. So far, it has trained over 7,000 students across its courses, which have seen a more than 96% completion rate and more than 98% placement rate within one month of the programmes, the statement claimed. Catering to the 18-24 age group, Virohan works with over 1,000 partners, including Fortis Escorts, 1MG, Dr Lal Path Labs, Sarvodaya Healthcare and Healthians, for student internships and job offers.

“In the next 18 months, Virohan will deepen its relationship with its stakeholders (Students, Universities/Colleges & Medical institutions), train over 10,000 students, and establish an international presence to cater to the $100 billion-plus global opportunity,” founder and CEO Dudeja said.
