In the ongoing battle against cyberattacks, compromised credentials remain a major threat for organisations worldwide. Paris-based startup MokN is tackling this issue head-on with its innovative 'phish-back' technology, which uses ultra-realistic decoys to trick hackers into revealing stolen login information before any damage occurs.

Founded just last year by Gautier Bugeon, Adrien Casteleiro, Alexis Georges, and Antoine Coudoux, MokN recently closed a €2.6 million seed funding round led by Moonfire, with participation from OVNI Capital, Kima Ventures, and several business angels.

The funding comes as MokN gains strong traction, serving more than 20 enterprise clients, including some of France’s top companies listed on the CAC 40 index. The startup currently protects over 500,000 users and has surpassed €1 million in annual recurring revenue.

Co-founder and CEO Gautier Bugeon shared that the idea for MokN came from his personal experience during a cyber crisis in a previous role. “The project was born out of a cyber crisis I experienced, which showed that a simple but effective solution was missing from the market. In less than a year, fully bootstrapped, we proved the value of our solution with major enterprises”, he said.

Unlike traditional security platforms such as NortonLifeLock, Aura, and Identity Guard, which try to detect or block attacks after a breach, MokN takes a proactive approach. Its decoys mimic real corporate environments, including VPN portals and webmail logins. When attackers interact with these fake access points, they unknowingly reveal credentials used on actual systems, allowing security teams to neutralise threats quickly.

“Identity theft is one of the fastest-growing and most damaging cyber threats, yet it’s almost impossible to recover stolen credentials before they’re abused”, said Akshat Goenka, Partner at Moonfire. “MokN is tackling this head-on with smart deception technology that turns attackers’ own tactics against them. Their rapid progress shows both the urgency of the problem and the strength of their product”.

Looking ahead, MokN plans to expand aggressively into the U.S., a market with 'virtually no direct competition'. Key leadership team members will relocate to the United States, and the company aims to grow its workforce with new hires in product development, sales, and marketing to meet local market needs.

MokN continues to enhance its technology and detection capabilities, aiming to set a new standard for proactive identity protection worldwide.
