A16z, an investment firm, sponsored a $32 million seed fundraising round for Plai Labs, a business that creates social platforms for Web3. The money will be used by Plai Labs, which is run by former executives from the social network Myspace and the gaming studio Jam City, to expand its staff and hire programmers to build decentralised social platforms utilising Web3 and AI technologies.

Josh Brooks previously held important positions at Jam City and Myspace before joining Plai Labs as executive vice president of marketing and operations. Using entertainment, social engagement, and digital ownership, he claimed that Plai Labs is aiming to make it simpler for new Web3 users to utilise the technology. Brooks further added, "In the absence of interpersonal relationships, the metaverse can be isolating. To design the future generation of interpersonal interactions, we are drawing on our expertise and experience."

The founders of Plai Labs are Josh Brooks, Chris DeWolfe, and Aber Whitcomb. Chris DeWolfe and Josh Brooks were previously co-founders and leaders of Myspace and Jam City, while Aber Whitcomb was the chief technology officer. Plai Labs stated in a press release that they are excited about the intersection of AI and creativity. They also added that from their experience of starting Myspace and creating popular games at Jam City, they learned that for a broad audience to engage with the technology, the experience must be enjoyable and user-friendly.

The conversation on the integration of AI in Web3 is becoming more prominent with the mainstreaming of AI software such as DALL-E and ChatGPT. Aber Whitcomb, the CTO of Plai Labs, stated that AI would be a crucial component in their game, Champion's Ascension, by combining the AI technology they have developed with non-fungible tokens (NFTs).

Whitcomb said that Plai Labs is interested in creating additional social platforms in the future, and that the ability to use an AI-based profile in many situations, such as art, may have consequences for games and the metaverse, not only in Champion's Ascension. yMedia was founded by Shashank.
