Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Address to the Nation Updates in real time: The Prime Minister's address comes on the same day that India reported 1,00,636 new Covid-19 cases and 2,427 deaths, the lowest in 61 days.

“This is the deadliest pandemic in the past 100 years. The modern world has not seen such a pandemic. Our country has fought this pandemic at many levels,” PM Modi says.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that if one looks at India's history of last 50 to 60 years, it would take decades to procure decades from abroad. Vaccine work used to be completed abroad, even then vaccination work could not start in our country, Modi said adding that the vaccination coverage in the country expanded from from 60% to 90% in the past five years.

According to the Prime Minister, new health infrastructure has been developed in the last 1.5 years, including COVID hospitals, ventilator beds, and the preparation of a network of testing labs. According to PM Modi, demand for medical oxygen increased at an unprecedented rate during the second wave in April-May.

The announcement was made via Twitter by the Prime Minister's Office (PMO).

Since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic last year, Modi has addressed the nation several times, offering people advice and outlining the steps his government is taking to deal with the situation.

After June 21, the Prime Minister announced that the central government will provide free vaccine doses to all citizens over the age of 18 after June 21, and state governments will not have to spend money on procuring them.

"It has been decided that from June 21, all adults over the age of 18 will be vaccinated free," PM Modi said in a televised address.

“State governments will not have to spend anything on the vaccine. Crores of people of the country have got free vaccine till now and now people of 18 years of age will also join it,” he added.

Centre itself will buy 75 percent of the total vaccine production from manufacturers and give it free to the state governments, he added.

He also stated that free food grains will be distributed in fixed quantities to over 800 million citizens each month until Diwali.

"Today, the central government has decided that the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana will be extended till Diwali. During this time to crisis, the government is with the poor. Free food grains will be available in fixed quantity every month for over 800 million citizens till November," the Prime Minister said.

Expanding on the vaccination point, PM Modi said on Monday that the supply of vaccine doses will increase in the coming days. "Seven companies in the country are producing different vaccines, 3 vaccine trials at an advanced stage," he added.

Narendra Modi on Monday said that 25 percent of work-related to COVID-19 vaccination with states will now be handled by the Centre. The arrangement will be implemented in the coming two weeks.

"In these two weeks, the central and state governments will together make necessary preparations according to the new guidelines," Modi said.
