BorderPlus, a startup focused on cross-border workforce mobility, has raised $7 million in its first institutional funding round, led by edtech venture capital firm Owl Ventures. Notable investors in the round include Flipkart Founder Binny Bansal, CaratLane Founder Mithun Sacheti, Oyo Founder Ritesh Agarwal, and Apoorva Patni from the Patni Group, who also serves as the director of Currae Healthcare.

Co-founded by Mayank Kumar, the former Co-founder of Upgrad, and Ayush Mathur, Former President of Europe at Oyo, BorderPlus aims to facilitate the global placement of skilled Indian professionals, beginning with healthcare workers and nurses. Kumar stepped down from his executive role at Upgrad on October 16, 2023, to launch this venture.

The newly raised funds will be utilized to enhance the platform, strengthen industry partnerships, and expand through mergers and acquisitions (M&As). Addressing the growing demand for skilled healthcare professionals, Kumar highlighted the global shortfall of approximately three million healthcare workers.

He noted that with more professionals retiring than entering the workforce, countries like India, the Philippines, Brazil, and parts of Africa are filling the gap.

BorderPlus plans to operate through a B2B and enterprise-driven model, charging recruiters rather than individual workers. The company aims to run multiple training batches and reach Rs. 100 crore in revenue by FY27.

Amit A. Patel, Managing Director at Owl Ventures, emphasized that shifting demographics, including aging populations, are reshaping the global workforce. He praised BorderPlus for addressing this crucial need with a tiered skilling and mobility approach.
