  • Negotiations underway with top VCs including Owl Ventures and Bertelsmann India Investments
  • Funds aimed at expanding academic programs, operations, and global partnerships in higher education

Tetr College of Business, which was started by entrepreneur Pratham Mittal, is holding talks to raise about $20 million in its very first external funding, sources close to the development said. The discussions are ongoing with top venture capital firms such as Owl Ventures and Bertelsmann India Investments, but the deal is still underway and not yet concluded.

This is the first fundraise for Tetr, which has until now been bootstrapped by Mittal. The planned investment is poised to give the institution new capital to grow its operations, add more academic programs, and build its presence in the competitive higher education sector. In the event of success, the round of funding would also indicate increasing investor belief in the potential of private business schools in India, especially those embracing new models of learning and global partnerships.

Tetr College has been projecting itself as a visionary institution which articulates academic seriousness with exposure to the real world, focusing on students looking for a more modern and applied style of business education. Mittal, an entrepreneur and educator by background, has played a key role in projecting the college's vision for delivering industry-focused learning that readies students for the challenges of a fast-evolving global economy.

The investment by investor groups like Owl Ventures, which is among the largest education-focused venture capital in the world, and Bertelsmann India Investments, which specializes in investing in high-growth businesses, underscores the increasing demand for novel models of higher education. While the Indian education market is experiencing a transformation in a digitally and structurally driven manner, players like Tetr are being positioned as potentially well-placed to leverage a growing demand for quality business education.

The talks are at a time when international investors are looking more closely at the Indian education sector, which has seen robust expansion in edtech and higher education solutions in recent years. A successful fund raising for Tetr would not only give it the capital to fuel its next phase of expansion but also highlight the growing role of venture capital in charting the future direction of education in India.
