Sunil Kumar Maddikatla, an alumnus of the International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad (IIIT-H), founded BlueSemi, a T-Hub-incubated firm has acquired $69 million in capital from Luxembourg-based investment organization GEM Global Yield LLC.

In roughly two months, the company plans to deploy a health-tech product that measures six vital signs non-invasively in less than 60 seconds, including blood glucose, ECG, heart rate, blood pressure, SpO2, and temperature.

“The idea is to create awareness about the body, eating habits and activity to help prevent a host of lifestyle diseases,” said Sunil, CEO of BlueSemi, adding that the USP of the product was that it’s the size of a mobile phone and can be used by multiple users.

The product is available for trials at the firm’s Experience Centre at Hyderabad. “Right now it is open by invite only to a known set of influencers in the industry. Soon, we will be setting up Experience Centres at Bangalore, Delhi, and Mumbai as well,” the BlueSemi CEO added.

While Covid-19 has claimed many lives, Sunil believes that the virus's death rates pale in comparison to lifestyle disorders.“A lot more people die due to diabetes or other chronic health issues such as heart ailments,” he said. Sunil cited information from the Union government, claiming that Indians gained an average of 8 kilograms in the previous year.

“Drawing inspiration from Ikigai, the Japanese concept of improving work and life, we started developing this device,” he stated. During the pandemic, the IIIT-H graduates produced SENS, the world's first wireless and contactless thermal scanning technology, which eliminates the need for human intervention in assessing body temperatures, as seen in standard hand-held thermal guns used in malls, offices, and other public spaces.
