Vayudh Secures $10M Funding for Defence Drone Development

Vayudh, a drone technology company specializing in defense applications and incubated at IIT Delhi, has successfully raised $10 million in a funding round led by Dharana Capital. The round attracted participation from various investors, including Deepinder Goyal (Founder and CEO of Eternal Ltd), Ajay Aggarwal (MD of Action TESA), Sumit Jalan, LetsVenture, and Navam Capital, along with previous support from Florintree Advisors. The newly acquired funds will be utilized to enhance research and development, scale manufacturing operations, and expedite deployments within the Indian defense sector.
“This funding represents a crucial milestone in our mission to create indigenous, state-of-the-art defense drone technology that meets global standards. We are committed to expanding our R&D pipeline and increasing manufacturing capacity to satisfy the rising demand from India’s defense sector,” stated Tanmay Bunkar, CEO of Vayudh.
Founded in 2016 by Tanmay Bunkar, Anuj Barnwal, and Sarita Ahlawat, Vayudh operates as a subsidiary of BotLab Dynamics Private Limited, focusing on the development of indigenous drone platforms for defense purposes, including battlefield intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR). With over 300,000 autonomous flying hours logged, the company has also applied its technology in commercial sectors such as industrial surveying and drone shows. Vayudh is particularly recognized for its advancements in swarm drone technology and nano-class UAVs.
In 2023, Vayudh received the iDEX (Innovations for Defence Excellence) grant to create India’s smallest surveillance drone and recently launched Atri, a nano drone designed for precision ISR missions. "India’s increasing defense budget and emphasis on indigenization present a unique opportunity to develop world-class defense technology locally. The Vayudh team possesses exceptional expertise in drone technology—their swarming technology is field-tested, mission-ready, and developed in India. We are thrilled to support their growth journey," remarked Vamsi Duvvuri, Founder and Managing Partner of Dharana Capital.
Vayudh’s drone systems are entirely designed and tested in India, reflecting over a decade of research into UAV technologies for security and defense. The company remains focused on enhancing its indigenous capabilities to align with national priorities in defense innovatio
