WaterScience, a Bengaluru based direct to consumer (D2C) brand focused on non-drinking water filtration, has raised Rs 1.4 crore in funding from Velocity, a growth capital platform backed by Peter Thiel’s Valar Ventures. The startup plans to use the funds to accelerate its growth, expand into new product categories, and strengthen brand and marketing initiatives.

Founded in 2014, WaterScience pioneered India’s shower and tap filter segment and currently offers over 40 products, including filters for kitchens, appliances, bathrooms, and full home water softening systems. These solutions target problems caused by hard water, chlorine, and other contaminants that impact over 95% of water usage in Indian homes.

The brand claims to have already served 2 million homes and aims to reach another 1 million households in the upcoming fiscal year. Co-founder Pavithra Rao said the funding validates their mission to make water safer and healthier for Indian families. “With Velocity’s support, we will scale faster and continue to innovate”, she added.

Velocity, founded in 2020 by IIT Bombay alumni, has supported over 4,000 digital first brands and disbursed more than Rs 1,100 crore in funding. Atul Khichariya, Co-founder and COO of Velocity, described WaterScience as a category creator with a strong focus on solving everyday water quality issues for Indian households.

WaterScience reported a 70% year on year growth and has a presence on platforms like Amazon, Flipkart, Shopify, and across 1,000+ offline retailers. The company noted that 70% of Indian homes face hard water issues, leading to skin, hair, and appliance damage, an often ignored segment with massive growth potential.

With the water solutions market expected to grow at 15% CAGR through 2028, WaterScience is positioning itself as a key player in a rapidly expanding and underserved space.
