Chinmay Satpathy , FounderIndia has more than 3000 craft forms, with every state of India contributing to the Indian economy with its handicrafts or handloom products. In recent years, art and craft have witnessed many changes where artists sell personalized and custom-made items through online platforms. Apart from this, the growing travel and tourism industry has provided vast opportunities for local artisans & handicraft manufacturers to produce commoditized products and sell them to tourists willing to spend significantly on souvenirs and other craft items. The government is coming up with different schemes for uplifting the artisans and weavers, like the Vocal for Local scheme. Showcasing innovative creations by directly engaging with highly skilled weavers and artisans, Village Kraft is committed to providing the best handmade products of Odisha with an emphasis on creativity, consistency, and quality.

As a largely unorganized sector, handicrafts need more professional infrastructure, work sheds, storage space, shipping, and parking facilities. Primarily self-employed artisans suffered the brunt of the pandemic as they were dependent on seasonal retail sales and direct orders. Village Kraft started the first retail experience store in February 2020 in the handloom city of Odisha – Sambalpur, which is famous worldwide for its handloom Sambalpuri Saree.
The journey started with a bumpy ride due to COVID-19 and the lockdown, but Village Kraft overcame the roadblock by launching their ecommerce site. “Village Kraft has an aim to facilitate customers to get the most reasonable prices for the best-handcrafted products and keep the artisans and weavers who are the backbone of the industry updated with the market trends”, speaks Chinmay Satpathy, Founder.
