However, customers often face challenges such as inconsistent briquette quality, limited availability of reliable suppliers, and high initial setup costs for biomass projects. Additionally, logistical issues and a lack of awareness about eco-friendly alternatives hinder widespread adoption. SASA Green is a pioneering company dedicated to converting agricultural waste into ecofriendly biomass briquettes, providing a sustainable alternative to stubble burning. Their innovative solutions help reduce air pollution, improve air quality, and promote cleaner energy in Maharashtra.
SASA Green was founded to combat air pollution and provide sustainable energy solutions by converting agricultural waste into biomass briquettes. The company’s inception was driven by a personal encounter with the devastating health impacts of air pollution, which fueled a passion for clean technologies. Innovating Eco-friendly Briquettes for a Greener Future
SASA Green offers innovative and eco-friendly solutions centered around converting agricultural waste into biomass briquettes, commonly called "green coal". These briquettes are produced using the company’s advanced binderless briquetting technology, eliminating the need for chemical binders and making the process more sustainable and cost effective. The briquettes are exclusively supplied to state-owned thermal power plants in Maharashtra, where they are used alongside traditional coal to generate cleaner energy, reducing harmful emissions and improving air quality. “In addition to biomass briquettes, SASA Green employs tor refaction technology, a process that enhances the biomass's energy density and binding properties”, says Akshay Chawla, Founder & CEO, SASA Green.
With operations across 126 sub-districts in Maharashtra, SASA emerges as a trailblazing force, driving sustainability, renewable energy, and environmental initiatives on an impressive scale across the region
SASA Green stands out through its innovative approach to tackling stubble burning, particularly in Maharashtra’s 'Sugar Belt’. By offering farmers an alternative, the firm collects over 9 million metric tonnes of cane trash using a network of 5,000 square balers across 126 sub-districts. The collected biomass is converted into Green BioCoal in SASA’s state-of-the-art Green Coal Plants. This eco-friendly fuel is used alongside regular coal in state-run power plants, significantly reducing pollution levels and coal consumption. Additionally, the ash generated from burning Green Bio-Coal is phosphate rich and provided free of charge to farmers as fertilizer. The firm’s model eliminates stubble burning and the associated air pollution, boosts farmer income, reduces coal ash disposal by 80 percent, and decreases overall pollution levels in urban areas affected by emissions, such as Mumbai. In addition to its briquetting solutions, the firm is expanding its portfolio into green hydrogen, aiming to play a key role in Maharashtra's transition to renewable energy.
SASA Green's future roadmap focuses on expanding its role in sustainable energy by advancing into the green hydrogen sector. Additionally, the firm plans to scale its binderless briquetting technology across more regions, further reducing air pollution and stubble burning. By leveraging government initiatives and advancing clean technologies, the firm is committed to delivering impactful, eco-friendly energy solutions.
