Traditional automobiles pose significant challenges for short urban commutes, especially for women and elderly individuals struggling to balance two-wheelers. Using cars for quick city trips is cumbersome and impractical, leading to a reliance on risky two-wheelers on uneven roads. As Bharat rapidly progresses toward becoming a $10 trillion economy, the influx of millions of new cars, regardless of being ICE or electric, will exacerbate congestion in our cities.

Based in Bangalore, IGO is a leader in this industry with its unique mobility technology. The company has developed the Narrow Tilting Trike (NTT), a crossover hybrid utilizing IGO's patented twin-wheel technology, which combines two wheeler agility with three-wheeler stability. After four years of intensive R&D, this deep tech smart mobility startup has pioneered vehicles with high torque and unparalleled road grip, perfectly suited for urban environments.

The dynamic potential of smart mobility technologies goes way beyond electrification. While electric motors are significantly more efficient than petrol engines, mere electrification won't solve other sticky problems like traffic congestion and high transportation costs. “Sustainable solutions must address these issues holistically by optimizing vehicle size for specific needs, ensuring safety, and improving comfort.
Reducing the payload per trip and enhancing overall productivity can not only make transportation more ecofriendly, but also has a tremendous multiplier effect on equitable economic progress. People are far more likely to adopt green technologies if they solve immediate problems, such as safety, comfort and efficiency. Our goal is to provide these comprehensive solutions to accelerate the adoption of truly sustainable vehicles”, says Sravan Kumar Appana, Chief Executer, IGO.

IGO’s technology-as-a-service platform enables OEM partners to build on its innovative solutions. The company also plans to open source the modular light EV tech platform just like their inspiration Tesla Motors. “We have seen a lot of smaller EV 2W players who couldn’t survive owing to a lack of own R&D capabilities. They were completely reliant on imported unreliable CKD kits. We want to democratize the small EV OEM space by enabling 100s of micro-brands. Bharat is on a journey to transform from just a service & product exporter to the technology exporter for the world. We want to do our part to realize this faster”, adds Sravan.

Go to Market

At IGO, the focus is on smart efficient mobility, catering to diverse needs such as farmers, beauticians, and photographers. Its first model, BeiGo X4, is the world’s first legally certified twin-wheeled motor cycle, combining the life-nurturing nature of a honeybee with the beastly grip of a mountain antelope. Designed for those relying on their vehicle for household livelihood, like eCommerce gig workers and small farmers, these vehicles ensure safe, efficient transport, enhancing income through fuel savings and higher earnings at an affordable subscription of just 1 rupee per KM.

With niche offerings, premium models for lifestyle commuters in the pipeline, IGO targets household consumers that seek reliability, comfort, and safety over low-cost or ultra-high-speed.

Future Roadmap

“Our mission is to provide dignified mobility, ensuring that both people and their materials move sustainably and efficiently. We aim to enable hundreds of micro-factories, rather than exporting from one remote giga-factory. This will not only create more local employment opportunities but will also enable sustainable production. Our vision includes creating connected and intelligent vehicles, replace four wheelers with smaller, lighter & cooler EVs within our congested urban spaces, that enhance safety and reduce road fatalities”, concludes Sravan. By focusing on localized production and advanced technology integration, the firm strives to revolutionize the automotive industry and make Bharat the defacto leader in the LEVs.
