Almost 30 percent of India's seeds and agrochemicals being sold are substandard or fake, which is losing farmers billions of rupees every year. The nation is also losing more than ₹6,000 crores every year because of agri-export rejections attributed to pesticide residues, non-compliance, and traceability issues.

With over 85 percent of Indian farmers being small-scale farmers stuck in inefficient supply chains characterized by fragmentation, the industry is under international scrutiny, leading to close to 13 percent of food recalls globally attributed to poor farm-to-fork tracing.

In response to such urgent issues, Scalion Commerce, established in 2023, came to revolutionize agri-business infrastructure through a blockchain-enabled SaaS platform.

The idea of Scalion Commerce was inspired by a mission to eradicate counterfeiting, operationalize efficiency, and establish trust in agricultural commerce. By integrating blockchain-based product verification, compliance automation, and its own ‘Trace, Protect, Comply’ modules, the business provides a single and smart digital ecosystem for farmers, FPOs, processors, and exporters.

In contrast to traditional agritech platforms that deal exclusively with practices of farming, it combines state-of-the-art automation, data intelligence, and regulatory compliance throughout the end-to-end supply chain, ensuring it's scalable for companies of all sizes.
“Our vision has always been to transform agriculture into a sector where efficiency and transparency drive growth for every stakeholder”, says Shreedhar Bhat, Managing Director, Scalion Commerce.

Driving Efficiency through Automation & Collaboration

Automation is at the forefront of its capability to streamline complicated agricultural workflows. It makes contract farming reconciliation, compliance documentation, crop tracking, and consumer verification processes traditionally manual and prone to errors digital. Not only does this save time, but it also minimizes the risk of contamination and fraud.

For example, a Karnataka agri-consortium reduced export rejections by 40 percent and substantially enhanced compliance audits after implementing Scalion Commerce's combined modules. Scaling such a platform involved working challenges of aligning divergent stakeholders, achieving interoperability across different regulatory agencies like FSSAI packages and USDA-NOP, and instilling trust among early adopters.

It navigated around these challenges by collaborating closely with agricultural ministries, incubators such as Pusa Krishi and C-CAMP, and co-evolving solutions with its initial group of customers. Ongoing system enhancements, supported by real-time data and feedback loops, guarantee that the platform is compliant with changing trends and regulatory guidelines.

Agriculture is about trust, sustain ability, and inclusivity, and at Scalion Commerce, we ensure every farmer and agrienterprise benefits from technology that simplifies operations and unlocks global opportunities

Enabling Sustainable Growth & the Road Ahead

Sustainability is the cornerstone of Scalion Commerce's ideology. Through green sourcing, wastage minimization through traceability, and integrating ethical compliance in operations, the platform works directly towards SDG and ESG goals. Its consumer-oriented QR verification technology also fosters brand trust, promoting responsible consumption.

In the future, it is focusing on predictive analytics, crop advisory using AI, IoT-based farm automation, and climate-resilient farm models. These developments are intended to empower companies with tools to succeed in international markets while conserving the environment. By transforming weaknesses into possibilities, it is establishing the groundwork for an open, effective, and environmentally friendly future in international agriculture.
