Biomass is the generic term for fuels originating from organic materials around us. Being the most abundant and easily available form of renewable energy present across the world, biomass can be used as a renewable energy source either by direct combustion to produce heat or by converting materials into various forms of biofuels. Established in 2012, Uttamenergy aims at harnessing the rich potential of bio energy by utilizing all kinds of biomass to produce energy and power. As a solution provider in the biomass space, Uttamenergy offers high quality, technologically advanced and reliable solutions in boilers, co-generation plants, captive power plants, independent power plants, and equipments for energy and power generation. “Our strong experience of over four decades in the field of boilers and power plants is rooted in the legacy of LIPI Boilers, one of the first private boiler manufacturers in India, and we were amongst the first few to introduce biomass-fired traveling grate and pulsating grate boilers in India. Our offerings have come a long way since then, and we are widely known in the market to supply the
most rugged and reliable solutions to address any customer’s energy and power needs,”shares Balram Adlakha, Managing Director, Uttamenergy.

Transforming the Rice Industry in The Philippines
Rice is the most important food crop in The Philippines, with annual production crossing 20 million tons. Out of this, more than 4 million tons of husk is produced, which is the outermost layer of the paddy grain. Despite the energy potential of husk as a fuel to produce electricity, most of the husk is disposed off. Uttamenergy is creating a difference by offering a complete bio-mass based power plant which uses high-pressure steam generation technologies and most efficient turbines to produce clean and carbon neutral electricity for the grid. Being a land of many islands, Philippines is best suited for the kind of power generation, which has the potential to completely transform the country’s rice industry. One such rice mill is Isabella La Suerte, one of the premier mills in the
country’s Isabella region, where Uttamenergy has recently commissioned a 5 MW rice husk based co-generation power plant, delivered completely on an EPC basis. The plant has been set up in a fashion which fulfills all the energy requirements of the mill, while the surplus power generated can be exported to the nation’s power grid. This plant has gained wide acclamation not only in the surrounding regions, but is also an inspiration to the entire industry to utilize one of the country’s most untapped resources as fuel.

Backed by a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility near Aurangabad in Maharashtra, Uttamenergy has also tapped the budding sectors of Southeast Asia and Africa, and it is already paving its way into South-American market as well. With each passing year, Uttamenergy’s growth and understanding of this domain has enhanced. Concluding the conversation, Balram says, “With a relatively small team and in a short span of time, we have already proved that the model we have followed so far is a successful one. Going forward, our plan is to aggressively increase our footprint across the globe, and also to diversify into highly lucrative areas such as waste-to-energy and energy storage, which may call for some investments. We are also making internal improvements, such as utilizing greater automation in our engineering as well as our manufacturing. The journey of Uttamenergy has been a great learning experience, and with the help and support from my family and certain advisors, we have come this far and we look forward to keep growing in the years to come.”
