Vivek Mohan, Lead BI & Analytics Enterprise ArchitectIn a well-established organization, one or more of the following tools and technologies are getting used in one way or the other. Enterprise Business Intelligence, Data Visualization, Big Data Analytics, Data science and advanced analytics, M/C Learning, Artificial Intelligence: IBM Watson, IOT Analytics, Big Data Processing, Data Cataloguing, Journey Analytics & others. But in order to derive the more business value out of the investment that organization makes, it needs to be connected and should complement each other. Our focus should be towards a new BI Paradigm shift, a new BI startup organization within the organization. The role of new BI Organization is to evolve BI Practices and implementations around what’s happening around the world and bring the latest and greatest of the tools and technologies. If required, they should conduct a proof of concept to prove the values of the technology to Business either in terms of cost saving, cost avoidance or a big business benefits.

The team structure for this transformation ideally should have the following roles
• Data Exploitation Architect
• Data Management Architect
• Data Security officer
• A team of data scientist/advanced analytics people to interface with Business to derive the modern day insights The above-mentioned role should roll up to Chief Architect office. They should have liberty to experiment the trends, attending the webinars, seminars, summits etc. to carve out more space for the modern day BI. In order to be a successful team, it should contain the right balance of Domain Skills, IT Skills and Data Exploitation skill

As the whole BI & Analytics world is going under transformation in waves, BI world is moving from Wave 1 (Semantic Layer Based Platform) to Wave 2 (Visual Based Data Discovery) to wave 3 (Smart Data
Discovery Platform), and the tools & Technologies should also support in making up such transformation. Similar sort of transformation can be found in the way business analyst do their analyses, what it means in terms of insight, Users, Skills, Organization, Interaction and collaboration and more importantly data. The next and the third wave of transformation will change the way we do, the way we operate, the way we govern, the way we collaborate etc. and hence there is a need for the BI & Analytics organization to evolve as well. That will give birth to a new BI Organization within the organization.
