Agri Biotech Startup 'BioPrime' bags $6 million in Series A
BioPrime Agrisolutions (BioPrime), an agribiotech business, has secured $6 million in its Series A round led by Edaphon, with participation from Omnivore and Inflexor, two current investors, on par. This is Edaphon, a Belgian company, making its first investment in Asia.
The Pune-based business, led by Inflexor Ventures and Omnivore, had secured Rs 9 million in its pre-Series A round earlier in October 2022.
Besides Inflexor and Omnivore, the company is backed by BIRAC, DBT, Govt of India, Venture Center, NCL Biotech Business Incubator, RICH, Telangana Govt, and UnLtd India.
The newly generated funds will support BioPrime's agricultural protection research, with an emphasis on the cooperative development of innovative biofungicides and bioinsecticides.
Founded by Renuka Karandikar, Amit Shinde, and Shekhar Bhosle, BioPrime creates reasonably priced agribiologicals that use tiny biomolecules to modify the fundamental physiological reactions in crops. These compounds assist crops cope with abiotic stressors like drought, high temperatures, and excessive watering, among others, and increase crop resilience to insects and pests.
With trials already under place in the US, the company intends to introduce its current line of cutting-edge biostimulants in North America, Southeast Asia, and Brazil.
Additionally, BioPrime intends to expand and expedite product development via the patented BioNexus technology platform, which boasts of having discovered more than 170 novel microbial strains from its collection of nearly 18,000 strains.
Similarly, a Travel the firm, Holiday Tribe has lifted Rs.5.4 crore in its seed funding round that was headed by Powerhouse Ventures and GSF. The key investors participated in that funding round that involved are Gaurav Kapur, Murugavel Janakiraman from BharatMatrimony.com's, & Dinesh Agarwal and Gulati from India Mart.
