Calligo Technologies Secures $1.1 Million to Develop Next-Generation POSIT-Based Chips

Calligo Technologies secured pre-Series A funding of $1.1 million which came from Seafund and Artha Venture Fund as the lead investors. The obtained funding will enable the company to extend its research efforts for developing its POSIT based silicon chip that targets High-Performance Computing (HPC) and AI workloads.
Version 2.0 development of its silicon chip along with team growth and strategic business partnerships with system integrators, OEMs and ODMs will receive funding support from the investment. The company achieved success with version 1.0 of its silicon chip after delivering it to early customers thus becoming a prominent national player in domestic semiconductor production.
The company CalligoTech established by Anantha Kinnal and two partners Rajaraman Subramanian and Vinay N Hebbali leads the world in POSIT number system implementations on RISC-V platforms. The TUNGA accelerator board from CalligoTech employs an octa-core POSIT-enabled RISC-V CPU that enables the system to work with all current x86, ARM and PowerPC server platforms simultaneously while delivering improved accuracy and energy proficiency and broad range capabilities.
The relentless HPC and AI computing needs have traditionally been solved by introducing additional hardware systems according to Anantha Kinnal who serves as the CEO and co-founder of CalligoTech. Our approach targets fundamental performance problems in their full magnitude. By using POSIT computer systems operate with fewer bits while maintaining precision and full range capabilities which creates multiple opportunities for power efficiency and large-scale computing.
General Partner Narendra Bhandari from Seafund expressed his backing for the company’s direction while stating “The demand for computing power shows exponential growth,” during an interview. CalligoTech has successfully reached the ver1.0 version that led them to develop their next-generation chip which moves swiftly towards manufacturing. The innovations developed by this company represent a critical requirement for sustainable AI and HPC development.
According to Anirudh A Damani of Artha Venture Fund as Managing Partner the chips from Calligo resolve fundamental speed issues within computing systems. Development of POSIT standards by CalligoTech might establish itself as the new industry standard because of growing demands from AI and large-scale modeling applications.
CalligoTech implemented POSIT support within modified RISC-V compilers and frameworks for C/C++, Fortran and Python which enables the execution of current HPC and AI applications through unchanged source code.
The company operates in US academic and supercomputing facilities while new developer interviews expand its reach worldwide as it moves toward manufacturing its 64-core System-on-Chip with POSIT support for upcoming mass-scale deployments during the next 12–18 months.
