Protonn, a provider of digital solutions for freelancers, has raised $9 million in a seed round led by Matrix Partners India, 021 Capital, and Tanglin Venture Partners.

Protonn is the first platform to combine the power of video marketing, scheduling, payments, and CRM into a single business-in-a-box solution.
The round was also attended by prominent angel investors such as Flipkart co-founder Binny Bansal, Flipkart CEO Kalyan Krishnamurthy, and Cred founder Kunal Shah.

The fundraising announcement comes as Protonn has launched its product to its first users in the United States, following months of product development and beta testing.

Protonn enables independent professionals such as lawyers, graphic designers, and nutritionists to launch their businesses online, create videos, hold live sessions, generate payment links, and track the financial performance of their businesses.

It charges a flat monthly fee per business owner.

In November 2020, the platform was founded by former Flipkart executives Anil Goteti and Mausam Bhatt. It launched its beta version on the iOS platform in the United States and will soon launch its Android and web versions in India.
Goteti was previously the senior vice president of marketing and advertising at Walmart-owned Flipkart. Bhatt was previously the head of product management for Google Commerce (Buy on Google) and held a number of leadership positions at Flipkart.

The funds will be used to hire more employees, launch the product, and develop new products.

“Video technology in professional settings hasn’t kept pace with advances on the consumer front pioneered by apps like Snapchat and TikTok,” Bhatt said.
“Protonn is leading that change by providing professionals with an easy way to market themselves using video and manage their business,” he added.

The company joins a growing number of startups that offer solutions to freelancers, who are increasingly becoming a part of the larger creator economy.

“The rise of the independent professional calls for new solutions and Protonn is poised to meet the market demand,” said Vikram Vaidyanathan, managing director, Matrix India.

Protonn's 25-person team is spread across the United States, Europe, and India, and the company intends to hire regardless of an individual's physical location.
