Edtech Startup Codingal Raises Funding from Y Combinator; Will be Part of W21 Cohort

US based startup accelerator Y Combinator has invested in Codingal, a Bangalore based online coding education platform for K-12 students. The startup will also be a part of the accelerator’s upcoming three month bootcamp, W21 cohort.

While the quantum of the investment remained undisclosed, Codingal said that the capital will be investment to enhance the startup’s teachers’ base, curriculum, and integrated product to realize its goal of building a one million strong community of school students interested in learning coding.

Speaking about the new development, Vivek Prakash, Co-founder and CEO at Codingal said, “Our mission is to inspire school kids to fall in love with coding, and we are building Codingal to achieve this mission by delivering high-quality computer science education combined with world-class coding competitions. Codingal’s selection by Y Combinator is, therefore, an exciting development for us and we count upon their support in building Codingal as a global online school in the K-12 segment."

Founded in 2020, Codingal claims to improve students’ logical thinking and problem-solving skills by 70 percent among kids at a young age, also enabling them to perform better in other subjects in school.

"We envision a future where Codingal is the default playground for every child interested in learning computer science by building apps, games, and websites in a fun and engaging way,” added Vivek.

Launched in 2005, Y Combinator is a startup accelerator that conducts an intensive three-month program for startups twice every year. It has already invested in over 3000 startups including Stripe, Airbnb, Cruise Automation, DoorDash, Coinbase, Instacart, Dropbox, Twitch, and Reddit.
