MPL's Mayhem Studios Raises $20 Mn From Sequoia India, Steadview
The Mobile Premier League (MPL), a bengaluru-based esports and online gaming company, has allegedly raised $20 million in a Series A financing headed by Sequoia Capital for Mayhem Studios, a mobile game development studio. Together with other companies, Steadview Capital and Truecaller took part in the round.
In his individual capacity, Bing Gordon, the chief product officer at the US-based venture capital company Kleiner Perkins, also took part in the round. The company would utilise the money to expand its capabilities and create new video games for India. At a recent town hall meeting, the mobile game production studio's staff members were informed of this development.
MPL has investors in addition to Sequoia Capital, who oversaw the first external fundraising round for Mayhem Studios. The gaming studio is a division of MPL, a platform that provides fantasy sports, casual games, and real money games.
In order to create AAA mobile games, which are video games with significant marketing and development budgets, Mayhem Studios was established. Shortly after its debut in May of last year, the company released its first video game, entitled "Underworld Gang Wars: A Battle Royale Game." Crevise Technologies, a product engineering company based in Pune, had been bought by MPL in 2019 through a cash and stock arrangement.
