Indian deep-tech startup Sisir Radar has raised $7 million in a Series A funding round led by 360 ONE Asset, with participation from existing investor Shastra VC. The fresh capital will help the company develop and launch India’s first privately built L-band Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) satellite, targeted for launch by 2026.

Founded in 2022 by Tapan Misra, Soumya Misra, and Urmi Bhambhani, Sisir Radar focuses on designing advanced SAR systems for land, air, and space platforms. The startup provides round-the-clock, all-weather imaging solutions for defense, agriculture, mining, environmental monitoring, and disaster response.

The upcoming satellite will be fully designed and built in India. It will deliver high-resolution imagery that works through clouds, darkness, smoke, and dense vegetation. Such capability is critical for national security, urban planning, climate monitoring, and emergency management.

Sisir Radar has already built the world’s highest-resolution L- and P-band SAR systems and has won two iDEX challenges to develop specialized SAR satellites for the Indian Air Force. The company also works with multiple industrial partners across defense and civilian sectors.

Unlike commonly used X-band radar systems, L- and P-band frequencies allow deeper visibility through vegetation and terrain. Sisir Radar has solved the challenge of achieving high resolution at these lower frequencies, placing it among global leaders in radar imaging technology.

The founders said the funding will help the company move from prototype systems to full orbital assets while expanding its research and development pipeline. Investors highlighted Sisir Radar’s strong in-house intellectual property, experienced founding team, and ability to build sovereign, mission-critical space infrastructure.

With this round, Sisir Radar aims to position India as a key global player in space-based radar intelligence and advanced remote sensing technologies.
