VC-led Manufacturing Startup 'Whizzo' bags $4.2 million in Seed round
Whizzo, a material science manufacturing firm specializing in engineered fashion and technical textiles, has raised $4.2 million in a seed funding round led by Lightspeed, with participation from BEENEXT.
The company plans to use the funds to enhance its R&D efforts in material science, set up a design lab for fashion-engineered textiles, and strengthen its supply chain network across India, Vietnam, China, Bangladesh, and Indonesia.
Founded in 2024, Whizzo develops proprietary textile blends, such as cellulosic and polymer-based fibers, catering to industries like medtech, packtech, indutech, and clothtech.
“Our vision is to establish Whizzo as an IP-driven leader in fashion-engineered and technical textiles. By creating proprietary blends and leveraging a cross-border Contract Development and Manufacturing Organisation (CDMO) model, we aim to address critical gaps and revolutionize the textile industry with innovation, sustainability, and global connectivity,” said Shrestha Kukreja, Founder of Whizzo.
Romit Mehta, VP-Investments at Lightspeed, remarked, “Technical textiles and man-made fibers represent the future of the textile sector. With strong government backing and visionary entrepreneurs, India is well-positioned to become a global hub of innovation in this space. Shrestha stands out as a leader with the ambition and expertise to build an ‘India to the world’ narrative.”
This funding highlights Lightspeed’s commitment to supporting innovative startups, following its recent investment in SolarSquare, a Mumbai-based solar solutions company, which raised $40 million in a Series B round led by Lightspeed and Lightrock.
