From the time immemorial, women are considered inferior compared to their male counterparts in terms of skill, intelligence, and strength. But gradually, with time women has proven this wrong by showcasing their effective and successful role in different sectors and segments of society. They clearly showed the imposters of the society, they are not created for mere domestic chores, but they are made for conquering the whole world.

Though women in India have unfurled their flag of pride to the whole world thousand times, still deep inside, they have been facing several restrictions and discrimination since traditional times, limiting their access to education, career prospects, and decision-making power.

Gender Gap in Startup Investment

By the time, women have already showed their extraordinary skill and capability, but still they are not treating equally as their male counterparts in business. According to the report of World economic forum, the companies founded by female entrepreneurs, received only 2% of all venture capital investments in 2022, and in that, 15% of VC cheque writers are women.

It is crystal clear as broad daylight that venture capital industry is a male dominated industry and consciously, subconsciously or unconsciously it is biased to male driven companies over the women driven businesses.

A data given by World Bank funded International Finance Corporation demonstrated that, in this enticing world of startups only about 11% seed funding is received by women-led startups and the count is even lesser in late stage funding which is strongly indicating towards gender gap.

Highlighting this issue, the Founder of WinPe, Nupur Garg said, “All investors say they will back the best idea, but that is influenced by stereotypes and unconscious biases.”

Male entrepreneurs were preferred by 70% of VC investors based on a Harvard study, despite the pitches being identical to those presented by female entrepreneurs.
