In our country, investment trends reflect global patterns with a vast majority of investment value and deals going towards startups founded by men. This issue stems not primarily from a lack of available candidates but rather due to subconscious biases held among male investors who make up most of the investing community. Female representation remains lacking in this sphere as well.

A few of the successful women-led enterprises which have touched the zenith of their career are Meghana Narayan and Shauravi Malik’s millet based cereal maker company ‘Slurrp Farm’. Falguni Nayyar led ‘Nykaa’ has created a separate brand in the cosmetics world from a D2C company.

On the other hand, cosmetics brand ‘Sugar’ by Vineeta Singh, ‘Mamaearth’ by Gazal Alagh, mattress brand ‘The Sleep Company’by Priyanka Salot has been co-founded with their male partners.

Nupur Garg also highlighted that, when the companies are founded by male entrepreneur, VC asks them ‘how much they can grow in one year’, while if it is led by a women founder they have face questions like if they’re married, have kids, what their husbands do, what time they go home, and other commitments”.

Women Founders Flying Higher than Male Entrepreneurs

There are plenty of instances and records to prove that, women are outperforming men and proved their excellence in the field with pride. Data shows that, women entrepreneurs tend to establish companies that yield greater income, result in enhanced employment opportunities, and have an ambitious outlook with efficient execution. According to a recent survey report, 32% of the female entrepreneurs are showing active expansion mode compared to 27% of male dominated business. Women-led startups have historically had a harder time securing funding than their male counterparts.

Due to the women’s tendency towards risk aversion, women tend to make more careful and deliberate choices in regard to their business pursuits compared to men. The women-led startups have surpassed the male dominated business in revenue growth and global expansion. Globally, 83 out of 585 unicorn startups are women driven.
