Geospatial technology enables the creation, management, and analysis of map data, playing a vital role in business operations. Professionals from diverse fields can leverage this for effective planning and decision making. Geovation Nepal is an innovative consulting firm with specific expertise in surveying and geospatial mapping using cutting edge technologies like drones. Geovation strives to establish itself as the premier provider of geospatial technology consulting services in Nepal and aims to expand its influence to become a leader in South Asia. Geovation Nepal focuses on utilizing drones to provide a wide range of services related to surveying, mapping, and videography. Geovation Nepal's expertise extends beyond drones to encompass district-level mapping, cultural mapping, and other services directly connected to drone technology. They cater to various sectors including agriculture, urban planning, construction management, hydropower mapping, disaster risk reduction, and climate change. Geovation Nepal's comprehensive offerings ensure accurate data collection and efficient problem-solving for their clients.

Empowering the Geospatial Data
Geovation Nepal began its journey in 2021, and it has been operating as a startup for the past two years. The driving force behind its establishment was the realization that although there were numerous companies offering drone services, the focus was mainly on traditional surveying and mapping techniques utilizing total stations and GPS devices. However, the founders noticed a
scarcity of companies dedicated solely to drone services and a lack of expertise in effectively analyzing and interpreting drone data. Recognizing this gap in the market, Geovation Nepal embarked on starting the company to fill the void by providing high quality data and ensuring customer satisfaction. For drone data capture, they utilize software and tools like Pix4D Capture, and Drone Deploy including specialized software for specific drone operations. These tools facilitate the collection of precise data using drones. Similarly, they use globally proven tools like pix4DMapper, Agisoft Metashape and GeoNadir for storing, processing and sharing the datasets. In terms of mapping and analysis, they make use of QGIS, ArcGIS, and other remote sensing tools.

You can easily capture the data using a drone. However, it is challenging to generate accurate results & analyze them to get insightful information. That's where we come in

Drone-based Surveying & Mapping
When it comes to surveying and mapping, traditional methods like total stations and GPS equipment have been commonly employed. However, comparing these conventional techniques with drone-based approaches reveals notable distinctions in terms of data quality, efficiency, time and cost estimation. For instance, surveying a two-square-kilometer area using GPS equipment with RTK technology could require around 15 days, while total stations might extend the timeline to two months or more. On the other hand, leveraging drones allows for data capture in less than two days, with an additional day or two for processing and generating output. This swift and convenient process proves invaluable in situations where rapid and reliable data is essential. Consequently, drones have emerged as the preferred choice for surveying and mapping tasks.

Upendra Oli, Co-Founder & Managing Director shares, “With our team of seasoned experts who have been involved in drone activities in Nepal since its inception, we are the pioneers in drone-based surveying and mapping. Our specialized survey grade drone enables us to conduct extensive and highly accurate mapping projects, including municipal mapping.”

Geovation Nepal expresses a desire to shift focus towards research and development, recognizing the emerging technologies such as AI and machine learning that can be utilized to enhance the reliability and usefulness of outputs derived from drone data, such as orthophotos and DSM/DTM. This shift is identified as a major goal, along with fostering collaborations with various agencies, both national and international, to achieve more comprehensive results. Additionally, ensuring market competitiveness, growth, and consistently delivering high-quality services to clients are highlighted as ongoing priorities.
