The Growth Story of Indian Start-ups

Nandini Mukherjee, Managing EditorWith over 4,200 new-age companies and a culture driven by pervasive spirit of entrepreneurship and mobility, India continues its momentum of being one of the most vibrant landscape for start-ups, strengthening its position as the third largest start-up ecosystem across the world. The Q1 2017 release of the Randstadt Work Monitor report revealed a positive view on entrepreneurship where 86 percent of Indian countries consider India a good place to start a business of their own, a substantial 30 percent more than the global average.

India’s start-up ecosystem has itself a striking resemblance to a start-up. Driven largely by government initiatives aiming to achieve fast growth fostering novel concepts, its entrepreneurial scene has reached a point where it is poised to mature its offering of products and services. Failing to do so would imply a slowdown in growth, compromising the country’s attractiveness for capital investment and leaving only the strongest would survive-for good or worse.

Interestingly, the 2017 edition of the NASSCOM-Zinnov report on the ‘Indian Startup Ecosystem – Traversing the maturity cycle’ shows that the Indian start-up ecosystem has added over 1000+ tech start-ups this year, taking the total number of tech start-ups to 5000-5200. Additionally, the report also pointed out that this rapid rise is coming on the back of B2B tech start-up landscape, focused on verticals like healthtech, fintech, and ecommerce/aggregators and others.

In our current edition, we have featured few of the successful start-ups from diverse verticals under our ‘Startup of the Year -2017’category. Each of these start-ups have a story to tell and value propositions that is making them a market hit. These start-ups continue to innovate enabled by technology and newer business models and have a long-lasting impact in improving the Indian start-up ecosystem. We wish them good luck. Hope their inspiring stories inspire our young India.
