46 startup founders arrive in IIFL Wealth Hurun India Rich List 2021

Forty-six startup founders made their names to the IIFL Wealth Hurun India Rich List 2021, with the Indian startup ecosystem making 27 unicorns so far this year.

According to the report, the cumulative wealth contributed by these entrepreneurs increased by 35 per cent to Rs 2,32,000 crore.

The list was topped by the chairman and owner of Reliance Industries, Mukesh Ambani.

Raveendran and family’s wealth was set at Rs 24,300 crore and made them the 67th richest with the wealth rising by 19 per cent this year.

Gautam Adani and family moved to the second spot with 5.05 lakh crore.

“Gautam Adani is the only Indian to build not one, but five Rs 1 lakh crore companies,” said Anas Rahman Junaid, MD and chief researcher, Hurun India.

The number of women on the list was 47 in 2021, more than 10 years ago. Neha Narkhede, Confluent co-founder is the youngest self-made women entrepreneur in India on the list.

The financial services sector saw a 55 per cent rise in wealth compared to 11 per cent in 2020. India has more than 237 billionaires, up 58 compared to last year.

The pharma sector recorded the highest number of billionaires with 40 entrepreneurs this year followed by chemical and petrochemicals and software.

Browserstack cofounders Nakul Aggarwal and Ritesh Arora, InMobi founder Naveen Tewari, Zomato co-founder Deepinder Goyal, Nazara Technologies founder Nitish Mittersain and Eruditus cofounder Ashwin Damera are the notable persons of the list from the startups sector.

Goyal registered a 164 per cent increase in wealth to Rs 5,800 crore whereas Info Edge founder Sanjeev Bikhchandani saw a 95 per cent increase in this wealth to Rs 29,700 crore.

Nazara Technologies founder Nitish Mittersain secured a position of 773 with a wealth of Rs 1,500 crore.

Browserstack co-founders secured 141st position with Rs 12,400 crore each. Earlier in June 2021, it had raised Rs 1,500 crore in Series B funding form Accel and Insight Partners at a valuation of Rs 30,000 crore.

Nitin Kamath, the founder of Zerodha and his family saw a 51 per cent rise in wealth to Rs 25,600 crore whereas Zoho’s Radha Vembu witnessed a 93 per cent increase in wealth to Rs 23,100 crore.

There was a 74 per cent growth in Nandan Nilekani & family’s wealth which totalled about 20,900 crores. A 77 per cent rise was seen in NR Narayana Murthy & family’s wealth that made to Rs 29,000 crore whereas S (Kris) Gopalakrishnan & family’s wealth rose by 94 per cent to Rs 35,200 crore.

As per the report, Paytm founder Vijay Shekhar Sharma’s wealth witnessed an 18 per cent decline to Rs 18,900 crore this year.

“Today, India has 237 billionaires, more than quadruple that of 10 years ago, and the second-fastest growth in the world after China, according to the Hurun Global Rich List 2021,” Junaid said. He added that a record 659 entrepreneurs or 66 per cent are self-made, up from 530 last year.
