Elmentoz Research Pvt. Ltd., an Indian deep-tech biotech startup, has raised $4.5 million in its first seed funding round to scale insect-based protein production and reduce the use of antibiotics in animal feed.

The funding, backed by angel investors from India and Norway, will help Elmentoz set up India’s largest Black Soldier Fly (BSF) protein manufacturing facility. The plant will process nearly 2,000 metric tons of industrial byproducts every month and is scheduled to begin operations in January 2026. The facility will follow global cGMP standards and use advanced automation to ensure consistent quality.

Founded in 2022 by Dr. Jayashankar Das and Dr. Padmaja Mohanty, Elmentoz focuses on precision animal nutrition and smart feed solutions. Its technology platform combines genomics, proteomics, and automated manufacturing to develop functional feed ingredients.

The company’s key products, sold under the ELGROW and ELTIDE brands, include antimicrobial peptide–based premixes, insect-derived proteins, and functional oils. These products support gut health, improve feed efficiency, and strengthen disease resistance in poultry, aquaculture, and pet food applications. They also offer a safer alternative to antibiotic growth promoters, which are increasingly linked to antimicrobial resistance.

Elmentoz uses insects to convert organic waste into high-quality protein, reducing land use, water consumption, and carbon emissions. This approach also helps lower India’s dependence on imported feed additives.

According to the founders, the new funding will accelerate research, expand production, and support the development of sustainable, antibiotic-free animal nutrition solutions. Investors believe Elmentoz has the potential to position India as a global hub for next-generation feed proteins.
