Fragaria Fruits Raises 2 Million to Expand Premium Fruit Farming

- Fragaria Fruits secures 2 million seed funding led by WEH Ventures
- Startup plans to expand premium fruit range and scale operations in Bengaluru
- Uses advanced farming tech to offer pesticide-free, long lasting strawberries
Fragaria Fruits, a Chennai based farming startup, has raised 2 million dollars in a seed round led by WEH Ventures. Other investors include Rainmatter, Spiral Ventures, and angel investor Sashi Kumar. The fresh funds will help the company expand its operations in Bengaluru and grow its premium fruit portfolio, including blueberries and raspberries.
Founded in 2024 by Harish Varadharajan, Timothy Chad Van Niekerk, and Damian López-Salazar, Fragaria aims to solve a major problem in India’s fruit market, the lack of fresh, high-quality fruit available all year round. The startup uses advanced vertical farming and Controlled Environmental Agriculture (CEA) to grow pesticide-free strawberries under its flagship brand Oh! Fruits. These strawberries are grown locally in Chennai, are twice as sweet as regular varieties, and last three times longer on the shelf.
Fragaria’s sustainable approach includes water recycling, solar energy use, and efforts to reduce environmental impact while keeping prices affordable. The company plans to boost its daily strawberry production in Bengaluru from 2-3 kg to 120-150 kg.

While Fragaria does not face direct competition from local fruit brands, imported options like Driscoll’s berries and Zespri kiwis remain limited in the Indian market. With this funding, Fragaria aims to become a leading name in India’s premium, sustainable fruit sector.
