  • Nikhil Kamath invests ₹137.5 crore in solar manufacturer Goldi Solar.
  • The investment supports Goldi’s expansion in solar module and cell manufacturing.
  • It aligns with India’s clean energy goals and rising demand for domestic solar solutions

Nikhil Kamath, Co-founder and entrepreneur of Zerodha, has invested ₹137.5 crore in renewable energy startup ‘Goldi Solar’. The funding will help the company scale up its solar module production and expand into solar cell manufacturing, as India pushes forward with its clean energy mission.

Goldi Solar, founded by Ishverbhai Dholakia in 2011, has rapidly expanded its manufacturing capacity from 3 GW to 14.7 GW within just 12 months. The company is now building its solar cell manufacturing facilities in Surat, Gujarat, with plans to cater to both Indian and global markets.

Kamath’s investment comes at a crucial time when India is seeing a surge in solar energy demand, driven by the government’s target of achieving 280 GW of solar power capacity by 2030. Policies like import duties on foreign modules and incentives under the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme are further boosting domestic production.

"India’s renewable energy sector holds massive potential. We must support companies like Goldi Solar that are capable of building global-scale clean energy solutions from India”, Kamath said.

This investment is part of Kamath’s broader strategy of backing impactful and future ready ventures. In recent months, he has invested in diverse startups such as Subko Coffee Roasters, PeeSafe, NourishYou, InCred Holdings, and LehLah. He also co-launched D'YAVOL Spirits, a premium liquor brand, alongside Shah Rukh Khan and Aryan Khan.
