Ansar H. Lone
Co-Founder & CEO
As program director for the UAV initiative at the I-Hub ARTPARK at the Indian Institute of Science, Ansar H. Lone observed an industry where speed to market sometimes eclipsed reliability, and that oversight could have dire consequences. “Larger aircraft programs have a long gestation period because engineering for resilience and reliability demands extensive time and input”, says Ansar H. Lone, Co-Founder & CEO, COMRADO Aerospace. “But UAVs often lose that engineering rigor due to the pace at which the ecosystem is evolving”, Ansar H. Lone adds. In response, the company built its foundation on four key pillars, namely reliability, resilience, safety, and security.
Unyielding in Flight
The commitment to these principles is evident in the company’s flagship technologies, the TITAN and ATLAS systems. TITAN is a versatile UAV capable of carrying payloads for intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance, and target acquisition, and it can even transport lightweight cargo over
While the flagship products address broader mission requirements, the company’s SPIDER platform demonstrates an equally strong focus on robust, specialized solutions. Developed initially as a test bench to facilitate subsystem evaluations for TITAN, SPIDER evolved into a hex-rotor vehicle that supports up to six kilograms of cargo and operates with a dual-redundant battery system and isolated power sources, designed to remain airborne even in the event of motor failure. By prioritizing resilience in SPIDER’s design, COMRADO Aerospace has created a UAV with the resilience of a ‘flying tank’, capable of surviving unexpected impacts or disruptions that could otherwise compromise the vehicle’s stability.

Edge of Altitude
UAV technology demands continuous improvement in autonomy, artificial intelligence, and machine learning, especially in surveillance and reconnaissance. With advances in sensor fusion and machine learning, COMRADO Aerospace's UAVs can now automatically detect and categorize objects, reducing cognitive load on operators and enhancing mission focus. The ability to leverage new technology while outsourcing certain components, such as electronic manufacturing, enables the startup to concentrate its resources on core competencies like design and advanced autonomy, without sacrificing performance or quality.
As the UAV market grows more competitive, the company sees this as an opportunity for further innovation. Strong partnerships with the defense sector and commercial entities ensure its products meet India’s regulatory standards, including the Directorate General of Civil Aviation’s stringent certification requirements. These partnerships also support testing in designated green zones and access to military ranges for high-altitude and long-range evaluations. With a strong engineering backbone, a government-funded safety net, and a steadfast commitment to durability and reliability, COMRADO Aerospace is well-positioned to redefine UAV technology in India’s defense and commercial sectors.
