  • Wiom secures funding from BII, Accel, Prosus, and others to expand affordable internet access.
  • Operates under India’s PM-WANI framework as a licensed PDOA with an asset-light, scalable model.
  • Aims to bridge India’s digital divide by reaching underserved households with internet as low as Rs 10.

Delhi-based internet services provider Wiom has raised $40 million in funding led by Bertelsmann India Investments (BII), Accel, Prosus, and Promaft Partners, with an investment from existing backer RTP Global.

The financing will enable Wiom to expand its mission to provide affordable, inclusive internet to underserved middle-income families in India. Wiom has a technology-enabled, asset-light model that complements the country's established infrastructure and draws on the government's PM-WANI (Prime Minister Wi-Fi Access Network Interface) initiative. Wiom is a licensed Public Data Office Aggregator (PDOA), partnering with local internet operators to bring broadband access to economically unviable locations.

Founded initially in 2015 as i2e1, it rebranded in 2021 to Wiom. Satyam Darmora, Nishit Aggarwal, Ashutosh Mishra, and Maanas Dwivedi co-founded the company, which has developed the platform to cater to the "next 500 million" Indians still without affordable digital connectivity.

"This investment is not just a capital injection it's a move towards creating an inclusive digital future," said Satyam Darmora, Wiom's Founder. "Our vision is to make information accessible to everyone, irrespective of background, at a low cost of as little as Rs 10."

According to Rohit Sood, Partner at Bertelsmann India Investments, Wiom’s innovative and scalable model is addressing one of India’s most critical but overlooked challenges: unlimited internet access for the masses. “Wiom is laying the groundwork for a digital infrastructure that will serve millions across Bharat,” he said.

Accel Partner Pratik Agarwal seconded, pointing out that fewer than 10% of India's 200 million homes today are even able to access affordable unlimited internet. "The Wiom team isn't just enhancing connectivity they're changing the ecosystem altogether," he said.

With the new capital, Wiom aims to speed up product development, grow its team, and expand operations to cover new towns, cities, and districts. It is currently recruiting across engineering, operations, and business development functions.

With India's digital economy continuing to expand, Wiom sits at the nexus of inclusion, affordability, and tech innovation bridging infrastructure and access for millions.
